Avital Bio

.
I was born in Baltimore, MD,Most of my early childhood memories are from Queens in New York City.
As a teen, I moved with my parents to Israel where I graduated from High School in Kibbutz Yavne, served in the Air Force, earned my Software Engineer degree at the Technion in Haifa, got married and raised a family.

We have been living in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 11 years.

I have been fascinated with metal from childhood. When I learned pottery, all my clay pieces had a metal style to them that my art teachers never approved of…

My first opportunity to study Jewelry Fabrication was at the Craft Guild of Dallas, TX, about 15 years ago.

After moving to California, about 10 years ago, I took classes in both Jewelry and Welded Sculpture at the Crucible, currently located in Oakland, CA.

I learned how to work with the fascinating new media of Precious Metal Clay at Hadar Jacobson’s studio, located in Albany, CA.

In the last few years I have started a journey of exploring various mediation and healing modalities. I am a Reiki Master II and a Theta Healer, studying with Dr. Rubi Shalev at the Camelot Center in Los Altos, CA.

All of this background is a part of who I am and of course influences my work

Jewish Tradition has always been an important part of my life and I enjoy making Judaica items in addition to jewelry in general.

I find all the various ethnic traditional designs fascinating and beautiful, and my work includes motifs from Celtic, Asian, Jewish and other traditions.

From large steel sculptures to small, delicate jewelry items, utilizing many different tools and working in various metal media - it is all an incredible adventure, one that I invite you to share with me.
